Juneteenth

June 19th is what as known as Juneteenth, the oldest nationally celebration of the ending of slavery in the United States. It all started back in 1865 in Galveston, Texas as African American Emancipation Day and spread nationwide and past our borders. In some areas it is celebrated for only a day, others a week and even for a month in some areas.

“Beyond freedom for one's self, Juneteenth celebrates freedom for all, worldwide. Juneteenth promotes unity and builds self-esteem through reflection, education, and through acknowledgement of achievements. Today, people of all races, nationalities and ethnicities join together to support and participate in Juneteenth celebrations - a true testament to humanity.” (Juneteenth website, link below)
