Once Upon A Time – ABC Fall 2011

The fall season is fast approaching, with the premieres of the network choices close at hand. This fall season is a cornucopia of themes, with one of these being fantasy. As history tells us, this choice is not usually successful, as seen with Pushing Daisies, which I loved but unfortunately it was quickly dropped. This also goes for even a little out of the normal shows. For instance, No Ordinary Family and Heroes both started strong, but were unable to maintain their viewership and thus the networks green light. Makes you wonder why try again?

Here we go. Once Upon a Time is being heavily hyped on ABC, and looks like a miniseries in the realms of Merlin. The previews also leave you wondering what the heck it is about? So I have done my research and here is the scoop. Per the ABC site, ‘Emma Swan, played by ‘House’ star Jennifer Morrison, comes from an alternate world and is Snow White and Prince Charming's missing daughter. According to her newfound son’s book of fairytales, they sent her away to protect her from the Evil Queen's curse, which trapped the fairytale world forever, frozen in time, and brought them into our modern world.’

Interesting, could have possibilities. However, it still sounds like a miniseries, not a reoccurring drama. According to the cast list, you have lots of familiar characters including Snow White, Prince Charming, Jiminy Cricket, Rumplestiltskin, and of course, the Evil Queen. Theoretically, the possibilities are endless, but how do you stay just this side of ridiculous?
That is the real question here. The first few episodes will undoubtly do well in the ratings as the curiosity factor will be there.

I have chosen this as one of my Fall Shows, which means it will be put to the three episode test. They (the show/network) have three opportunities to hook me. After three episodes, I will able to gage whether or not it is a show worth watching. I am planning to choose several pilots to put to the test. If you have any suggestions or a show you would like me to put to the three episode test let me know! Next week we are going to continue to choose our Fall Prime Time list. There is a plethora to choose from, so let the games begin!
