GetByMail - Remote Information Exchange

At the moment, gaining 24 hour remote access to your 'other' computer is big business. A couple of popular companies make substantial revenue from selling consumers remote access to their remotely located information. GetByMail is a freeware alternative to subscription services that offers the user remote access to any computer you can access via email.

How does it work? GetByMail allows you to set up a series of email addresses that are allowed to exchange information. Once you contact a home or office computer, you are given full access to the directory listings and the tree view. You can now perform almost any action you could perform if sitting at that computer, including renaming and deleting of files, perform changes to the remote directories, run applications, and shutdown, reboot, and logoff.

Of course, you can easily upload and/or download files, which are automatically compressed and encrypted to assure your transmissions are safe and secure.

GetByMail make it easy for you to share files with other users who may have problems otherwise because of firewalls. You can bypass most firewalls by sharing the information via email. This makes it easy to transfer files of photo's or music, anything that doesn't exceed the file limit of your email server.

I have found that GetByMail works fine with the SSL connections of most popular Internet E-mail (POP3/IMAP/SMTP), including Outlook, Outlook Express, Thunderbird, and Googles Gmail. I personally use Gmail because of the large file transfer size.

Setup is easy, since you only need the email address. There are no network configurations or FTP software required, which makes transferring information almost as simple as sending conventional emails.

Two versions are available; the freeware version, which I use, and a shareware version that's $ 24.95 USD and includes unlimited email support and is ad-free. As always, I recommend downloading the free version and checking the features to see if it meets your needs.

GetByMail advertises that there is nothing in the install that poses a threat to your computer. No trojans, adware, or spyware. Personally, I've experienced no problems with the program. I would trust that your experience would be a favorable as mine.
