Fabulous Fabric Beads – Create custom Beads and Art Jewellery is a great new technique. With the advent of art quilts, quilters are discovering new ways to create wondrous art pieces and practical wearable art. This is where this book – Fabulous Fabric Bags comes in. It’s a wild idea, but hey, it certainly works, and best of all with minimum of fuss and ado.
Right from the opening page, you get the sense that you can do it – even with the most fantastic photographs and graphics you don’t for a minute feel you’re going to be fighting your way through this new craft.
There’s a multitude of projects to try, all with great instructions and photographs. There are 20 embellishment techniques offered, incorporating all manner of media including paint, crystals and wire.
The book is also full of side tips and hints that give you the sense that the tutor is standing right over your shoulder, watching you and helping you along.
I would thoroughly recommend this book to any fibre artist that wants to go in the new direction of jewellery art.Interweave Publishers provided this review copy to me free of charge.
Quick Star Quilts and Beyond is another fabulous publication from C&T Publishing and Jan Krentz. There are 20 terrific projects, along with lots of ideas and techniques for creating that special, unique one-of-a-kind quilt.
Jan shows some great time saving techniques for cutting and piecing together with a huge photo gallery of quilts by very well known quilters. There’s something really special about star quilts and Jan has captured many ideas for star quilts, and turned them on their head and ended up with a whole new concept in star piecing.
If you’ve been looking for a publication that simply explains geometric components such as 45 degree diamonds, quarter diamonds and half diamonds, this is the book for you. It needs to be noted that Diamond Rulers are used with Rotary cutting instructions.C&T Publishing provided this review copy to me free of charge.
Flip-Flop Paper Piecing is a revolutionary single foundation technique. By single foundation, it means that only one foundation is used and there is no necessity to join two foundations together to form a single block. The ingenious way that Mary Kay Mouton has discovered is to use her Flip-Flop technique. It’s not difficult to understand, especially with the fabulous photographs and graphics that have been employed to help with the explanation. It is a very simple idea that really works.
May Kay has addressed all the issues that pop up when attempting to make only one foundation for your piecing such as getting rid of the Y seam, and when seams collide. There is even a description of how you can start your foundation piecing from the corner instead of the centre. This is a very interesting and manageable concept that might take a little time to digest, but it will taste great, once you’ve mastered the recipe!!C&T Publishing provided this review copy to me free of charge.
