The deck is made up of colored cards(red, green, blue, yellow) numbered from 1-4. There is a fifth type of card called a dud that is colorless. The object of the game is to be the first person to 100 points. You earn points by being the first in a round to get a Fuddy or a Fuddy Duddy. A Fuddy is cards numbered 1,2,3,4 all the same color. A Fuddy Duddy is cards numbered 1,2,3,4 but all the cards have to be duds.
Once the deck is shuffled, every player is given four cards. The first person to play must draw a card since there are not discarded cards on the board yet. There are four discard piles-one for each number. Once a card is drawn, the player discards one card to the proper pile. The next player can either pick up the discarded card or draw a card. Play continues until someone has a Fuddy or a Fuddy Duddy.
A Fuddy is worth 20 points. Since it is harder to get, a Fuddy Duddy is worth 40 points. Once a player has won the hand, other players may have to take penalty points. Players with duds in their hand take -5 points for each dud. There is one wild card in the deck which is given the value of 4. It's a Wild Fuddy and can be used with any of the four colors to make a Fuddy. There is no penalty for having the Wild Fuddy or any other cards in your hand.
Fuddy Duddy is a compact card game as well. All the cards plus the rules fit into one small box. It's easy to store, and you don't have to worry about losing any components. The instructions are easy to follow and have plenty of pictorial samples of winning hands-giving the youngest player an idea as to what a winning hand is suppose to look like.
Fuddy Duddy is straightfoward, and the concept is easy for young players to grasp--making this a nice game for parents to play with their children. Being at an age where you want to play card games but are constantly told it's too complicated makes games like Fuddy Duddy a great addition to any card collection.
