One of my favourite ways to travel is on the train. There is something romantic about riding the rails through parts of the country that have no roads. The opportunity get up and move around is an added bonus. And train seating often affords more leg room than most airplanes. So whenever I have time for a relaxed mode of transport, I hope a train.

And while I do enjoy doing the solo thing on some holidays, it is often more fun to take a trip with a group of friends.

I was really pleased to learn that Amtrak is offering an opportunity to combine two of my favourite travel options - train travel and group travel - and with an attractive offer for mature travelers. And that offer applies to one of the prettiest routes in the Amtrak system.

Have you ever thought how much fun it would be to take a train trip with a group of friends? Amtrak has an offer for larger groups (min 20, max 50) that might make the trip even more enjoyable. So gather up your friends, church group, seniors center pals, and school reunion chums and hop on board!

The popular route from Eugene, Oregon to Vancouver, BC, is the featured run for this deal. Fare examples include one-way tickets from Vancouver to Seattle at $10, and Portland to Eugene is $7 person for either one-way or round trip. The fares can also be combined.

Of course, some restrictions apply such as stated blackout dates. The fares are also available only from Monday through Thursday.

Reservations must be made at least 30 days before the trip.
