According to my research of reported and documented cases, there were a total of forty-four child deaths for the months of May, June, and July, 2006.
There were seven children killed in the month of May, 2006. The youngest victim was just 22-months-old while the oldest was 17-years-old. Interestingly, one of the above mentioned cases earlier had child protective services investigating child abuse. Another child was killed by their foster mother. Sadly, one of the deaths was drug related. The boy that died had been spending the night at a friend's house and got ahold of some drugs.
For the month of June, 2006, eighteen children were killed. Of these eighteen children, three were unborn fetuses. The youngest fetus was five months old while the oldest fetus was nine months old. The oldest child killed during the month of June was a seventeen year old.
During the month of July, 2006, there were nineteen children killed. The youngest child was eight months old while the oldest was sixteen years old.
This is entirely tragic that forty-four children died due to abuse and neglect. While some may argue that a fetus should not be included in this tally, I disagree. I believe that even the fetus should be counted in the total of deaths. I have chosen to include the fetuses in this article. Sadly, the month of July is not over yet. I sincerely hope that there won't be further deaths for the month of July.
Our system truly needs a great deal of reformation. Each of the above mentioned deaths could have been prevented.
