The Great Lakes Circle Tour

Interested in traveling? Want to take in a lot of natural and historical scenery? Well hereís a challenge for you. How about taking a trip along the Great Lakes Circle Tour? This scenic route connects all of the Great Lakes.

This 6,500 mile route will take you on a scenic drive along the entire Great Lakes coastline. You can take this trip all at once or drive around one lake at a time. Iíve chosen a few different sites that should be worth visiting along the way.

The Lake Superior route will take you into Thunder Bay. There you can stop and visit the historical Fort William. Upon walking through the gates of this fort you will go back in time and see how fur traders and Indians lived. Dedicated workers dress for that time period and do a great job acting their parts to allow visitors to get a feel for what it was like back then.

As you travel around Lake Huron, you have a chance to camp at many of the state parks and state forests located near the coast. There are also numerous waterfalls along the shorelines. After a long drive, take a break and enjoy them.

The Lake Ontario trip will also take you by many state parks. The one that is a must see is Fort Niagara State Park which is home to the Old Fort Niagara Historical Site. This fort will give you a chance to walk back in time in this massive site. Restored buildings within the fort are on display for the public all year long.

The Lake Michigan scenic tour will give you a chance to take in many old lighthouses, about 88 in all. Various lighthouses are located all along the coastline; some are still active. Each one has its own unique design and should be aesthetically pleasing. As you are driving around Lake Michigan, keep in mind that over 500 ships have sunk in these great waters.

Near the Lake Erie route you will find the Erie Maritime Museum. This museum houses many artifacts from long ago and has videos and presentations available to visitors. Also on this route is Asbury Woods. This area is a great place to get out and take a walk along the trails and enjoy the plants and trees.

When you go for a drive along the Great Lakes Circle Tour, you will find plenty to see and do. There are many natural and historical sites just waiting for you to see. Have a nice drive!
