You are working on a document that contains several pages of text. You have a few tables that you need to include and you would like to set them up with a landscape orientation to accommodate the number of columns you need to display the information. You can easily accomplish this by using section breaks. The trick to this is to place a section break before and after the portion of your document that you want a different orientation. Here is how:
Type your document to the point where you want to insert the table with the landscape orientation
Select Break from the Insert menu
Select Next Page from the Section area of the Break dialog box
Click on OK
Place your insertion point at the top of the new page created below the section break
Select Page Setup from the File menu
Click on the Paper Size tab
Click on Landscape in the Orientation section of the dialog box
Select This Section from the Apply to: field drop down
Click on OK
The page will change to a Landscape orientation
Insert your table and complete it as you need
You can continue to add landscaped pages in this section as needed. When you want to return to a Portrait orientation, you will insert a new section break and change the orientation to Portrait as follows:
Place your insertion point at the bottom of the section with the landscape orientation
Choose Break from the Insert menu
Select Next Page from the Section area of the Break dialog box
Click on OK
Place your insertion point at the top of the new page created below the section break
Select Page Set-up from the File menu
Click on the Paper Size tab
Click on Portrait in the Orientation section of the dialog box
Select This Section from the Apply to: field drop down
Click on OK
The new page will change to a Portrait orientation
Complete your document as needed
Working with an Existing File
Place your insertion at the top of the page where you want to change the orientation
Select Break from the Insert Menu
Select Next Page from the Section area of the Break dialog box
Click on OK
Place your insertion point where you want to end the Landscape orientation
Select Break from the Insert Menu
Select Next Page from the Section area of the Break dialog box
Return your insertion point to the top of the page where you want to change the orientation
Select Page Set-up from the File menu
Select the Paper Size tab
Click on Landscape in the Orientation section of the dialog box
Select This Section from the Apply to: field drop down
Click on OK
You may need to adjust the page breaks in the section where the landscape orientation has been applied to assure a good flow of information.
You can use the same technique to change one or more pages to a column style. Experiment with sections and learn to use them to get the results you are looking to achieve.
