Traveling the Great Lakes in an Airstream

When you think of Airstream what may come to mind are the huge, silver aluminum trailers being pulled behind vehicles.

The Airstream travel trailers have been around since the 1930s. Many people have enjoyed traveling in one of the many different recreational vehicles that are made. Since the 1950s, they were manufactured in Ohio, near the Great Lakes region.

Airstreams are known for comfort when traveling as they are equipped with all the necessities of home. The trailers come with a stove, oven, sink, refrigerator, couch, cabinets, sleeping quarters, bathroom, and a shower.

My husband and I were fortunate enough to come across a reasonably priced, used Airstream RV van three years ago. We were somewhat hesitant about getting one at first, since we enjoyed being outside and were used to camping in a tent. We didn’t want to lose that.

We quickly realized that we would still spend most of our days outdoors, but our cooking and sleeping comforts would be easier and more comfortable.

What is great about the Airstream van is that it isn’t too big. We can park in a regular parking stall when making stops here and there, so we aren’t limited.

I personally love the built in bathroom. It’s great when traveling down the highway. Now I don’t have to have my husband pull over so I could use the facilities! It is also very handy during the night.

The Airstreams are great for short trips. We’ve traveled around the Great Lakes area, enjoying camping in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Michigan. The local campgrounds and state parks are very accommodating for RVers.

A recreational vehicle is also great for lengthy trips across country. We’ve taken several trips as far south as Texas and all the way west to Colorado. There is nothing better than winter camping, yet staying warm at the same time!

Being able to warm up lunch in the microwave, thanks to the handy generator that comes with is very handy. This makes for a lot less stops and we can still eat our favorite foods from home. It’s a great money and time saver when on the road.

Airstreams come in a variety of sizes and designs. There are many trailers and RVs to choose from and they have all the necessities and comforts of home.

So if you every run across an Airstream and the price is right, whether it is new or used, give it a try and find out what many others have been enjoying for years.
