Stress is a growing health concern for many women. They face stress at work, at home, and at play. Stress can wreck havoc on a woman's body and mind. Here are tips on reducing stress, managing stress, and getting some stress relief.
Too much stress leads to many health problems. And many women who are bombarded with daily stress resort to over eating or substance abuse while others find that a cigarette helps to calm jangled nerves. These are just momentary stress management fixes that do not treat the root of the stress or work long term to solve the problem. Actually, there are very viable ways to relieve stress or control stress in our daily lives. Here are a few suggestions.
Health - Take care of your health and watch those stress levels quickly fall. Sometimes reducing stress is as simple as eating the right foods, getting enough sleep, exercising more often. This is very difficult for many busy women. What is the solution? Try taking small steps. Take a quick nap during the day if sleep is the problem. Go for small walks during lunch breaks if you need more exercise. Try adding more vitamin rich fruits and vegetables to meals. These small changes should help you cope with and reduce stress related problems affecting the body.
Live in the Now - Place your mind firmly in the present. Stop worrying about tomorrow or what happened in the past. Place your mind and body in the same place! If your mind dwells in another place while your body is here in the present you are placing added and unnecessary stress on the body and mind.
Help Other's - Don't dwell on personal problems. Dwelling on personal problems builds up pressure and more stress. One good solution is to help others. Once one starts helping others, their own problems seem less overwhelming. Get involved with a local charity or neighborhood organization.
Get Organized - Get rid of clutter! Clean out the closet, attics, basements in the home. Donate to a needy organization. Get rid of stressful relationships that bring you down. Take a look at work related stress. Is stress overload a problem at work? Find ways to reduce workplace stress.
Humor - Try to see the funny side of any given situation. Look for the silliness and irony. A little sarcasm and caustic humor might manage stress. Try to have a good laugh each and every day. Watch funny movies. Read funny stories. Share a laugh with friends and family.
The World Doesn't Revolve Around You - Most people are in their own world and could care less about your personal mistakes. They are more concerned about their own personal problems. Don't stress over the small stuff. Stop trying to be perfect. The world doesn't stop revolving if you make an error or are less than perfect!
Anger Management - Working with the public causes undue stress. Working with unreasonable coworkers causes workplace stress. These people you face daily might be gruff, hostile, and even manipulative people. One way to cope with this stress is to treat annoying people with a smile instead of anger. This act of a smile usually diffuses or neutralizes negativity.
Positive Thoughts - Acknowledging that negative voice in your head adds to stress. Each time a new negative thought enters your mind . . . say STOP! Then think a positive thought. For example, Instead of thinking "My boss wants me to work overtime again. What an idiot. Doesn't he think I have a personal life? Replace it with, "My boss appreciates and values me as an employee. And knows I am the right person for this task!"
Name Game- Play the name game. Often, a small name change reduces the stress. See those pesky little problems as a New Opportunity! For example, you lose your job. Instead of stressing out, see it as an opportunity to rethink your career. Or change careers. Seek retraining in a completely new career. Start your own home based business. Or take time to stay at home and spend more quality time with the family.
Blame Game - Remember that others are not in charge of how you react to a situation. You choose to act in a stressful way or a calm thoughtful well managed way.
