Through the years women have used assorted plants and berries to make solutions to tint their hair. This week Ive found some all natural recipes for hair color that come right out of the refrigerator.
Black tea or coffee For Dark Hair
Coffee and tea drinkers know how these beverages will stain when spilled on clothing or the carpet. An accident such as that is likely the inspiration for this recipe.
This is for the person who has dark hair that may look a little faded. This will take away the reddish look that comes from too much sun. It will also camouflage a few gray hairs that may be showing. The solution will not cover them completely but it will darken them enough that they blend in.
Recipe Brew 2 cups of strong coffee. Allow it to cool. Pour this over your hair after you shampoo and condition. Leave it in as you dry and style your hair.
You may also use black tea. Use 6 or 8 tea bags to brew 2 cups of tea.
Carrots For Redheads
Red hair often fades as we age. It loses the bright, rich red tones. This recipe will add bright tones and also camouflage a few gray hairs. It can also be used to warm up brown hair.
Recipe - Cut 2 large carrots into pieces. Put them into 2 cups of water and bring it to a boil. Allow the solution to simmer for about 15 minutes. Remove the carrots. (Serve them for dinner with butter and seasoning.) Then use the water to pour over and saturate your dry hair. Wrap your hair plastic wrap or cover it with a plastic bag and wait about 20 minutes. Rinse well and shampoo and condition.
Lemon Juice - For Blondes
Lemon Juice will lighten and brighten blonde hair. You can use bottled or (if you have short hair) fresh squeezed. You will also need a sunny day.
Recipe - Pour the juice over your hair and comb it through. Go outside and sit in the sun until your hair dries. Shampoo and condition your hair. Use of conditioner is a must with this recipe as it can be drying to your hair.
