Ringo may not want a lot to do with his fans anymore, but the two remaining lads from Liverpool are letting fans get closer to their Beatle dreams. A video game starring the Beatles will be out in 2009. The game is currently in development from the people who created Rock Band. It isn't expected to be a game exactly like Rock Band, but it will feature Beatles music and will have some type of representation of the band during different points in time.
It has not been announced whether the likenesses of the boys will be in the game, though it would be hard to have a game without them. The exact theme of the game has not been announced and it's all very mysterious for now.
There aren't any Beatles songs currently available on iTunes, and there is also speculation that the release of the Beatles game will coincide with the release of at least some songs to the site. Contrary to popular belief, Michael Jackson does not control when the songs are released to iTunes nor what games or other media can use Beatles performances. Michael Jackson's rights are the publishing rights to the songs rather than the rights to the recorded music.
Ironically, while the fans have been pushing Apple to include Beatles songs in the its iTunes shop, the Beatles once sued Apple Computer for having the same name as their record company, Apple Records. The case was settled in 1976 out of court.
So, what should a Beatles video game entail? A few humble suggestions:
Pin the Tail on Ringo
John and Paul Cage Match
The Beatles Annihilate Lame Current Musicians
Force Ringo to Sign Pictures
Win Jackpot by Marrying Paul
Here's hoping that the game will look a little like this:
Here's where to get 27 Number 1 Beatles hits on one CD.
