Writing is all about showing a captivating story to the readers and getting them involved in it. But in order to achieve this, you have to give your audience what they want. As long as you choose the right genre for your novel, you will be able to gain the attention of publishers and readers alike. Surprisingly or not, romance is the best selling fiction genre at present in terms of the number of books sold. This genre has always been strong historically and it seems that this trend will remain. Generally, love is a universal theme that everyone is interested it in, even though it seems to intrigue the female audience mostly. There are a lot of additional themes and conflicts to present as well. You will certainly find plenty of inspiration coming from the nature of modern-day relationships and historic ones.

It cannot be said with certainty whether modern romance novels have reached the traditional popularity of historical ones, but they are certainly reaching more and more hearts. You can really set your imagination free and come up with a great story. Still, you will have to work hard on making an intriguing and entangled plot. Moreover, you have to do quite a lot of research to add realism and/or mysticism to your novel in order to make it more interesting.

Mystery is one of the best selling fiction genres. It has been among the most popular ones for a very long time. Everyone likes to solve mysteries by putting together the pieces of the puzzle along with the protagonist. Mystery and criminal and detective novels, in particular, are not the easiest to write. Still, they are relatively short and this can be an advantage for novice writers attempting to create such pieces.
