Fighting For Dear Life Book Review

Author/Attorney David Gibbs defends the rights of churches and Christians nationwide through Gibbs Law Firm and Christian Law Association. Gibbs Law Firm became lead counsel for Terri’s family, the Schindlers, in September 2004. David Gibbs met Terri Schiavo on Christmas Eve.

Mr. Gibbs wrote this eyewitness account of Terri’s true condition and his involvement in fighting for her right to live. Fighting For Dear Life includes detailed timelines of the 14-year battle, photos of Terri’s life and the full span of the Schiavo case, descriptions of Terri’s true medical and mental condition and real life courtroom drama.

I remember some of the published reports that said Terri Schiavo was in a coma, that she was on life support, a vegetable, brain dead and that she needed a respirator to breathe. I believed these reports, not knowing that none of the reporters – from ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, Fox and the New York Times – ever saw Terri Schaivo. Michael Schiavo and his attorney denied access to her room to anyone who could report her true condition to the world. In fact, the judge who held Terri’s life in his hands never met her or saw her.

David Gibbs describes his personal visits with Terri and her parents in her room. The woman he describes is far from the terminal comatose patient described in news reports.

This book, however, is about more than the misreported facts. It is about the preciousness of life and about how Terri Schiavo’s death has affected each and every one of us. I consider Fighting For Dear Life an important read. It will cause you to question facts and weigh motives. As I read, I found it hard to believe that the events actually occurred. I was saddened, brought to tears and then outraged. It changed my comfortable life.

I was reminded that as Christians, we must never coast in life. We must never be too busy to fight for the rights of those who are unable to fight for themselves.
