Murphy's Law

Hello, and welcome back! Hope those of you in the U.S. had a good holiday weekend. I spent mine working--playing in stacks of books and enjoying a booksigning with Karen Rose Smith. And, before I head off to work again, I have three new books to share with you this time out.

Murphy's Law Murphy's Law (Zebra) by Lori Foster is up first with her latest. Ashley Miles doesn't have time for a relationship, not even a casual one, but Quinton Murphy won't take 'no' for an answer. And the chemistry is seriously hot, so what's a girl to do but find a way? And what's a guy to do when someone's after his girl? Go all macho, as only a Lori Foster hero can do. As always, there's so much steam here, it'll curl your hair. This one is a quick read, with great characters and a storyline that'll keep you turning pages. It's earned four and a half of Cupid's five arrows.

Last Whisper Last Whisper (St. Martin's) by Carlene Thompson is next. Brooke Yeager's life has been fairly good since her terrible childhood. Until one of her co-workers is killed by someone hunting her. In fleeing the hidden murderer, she finds herself in contact with a retired policeman and his skeptical son, Vincent Lockhart. This one has plenty of suspense, though not nearly enough romance for me. There's a pretty large cast of secondary characters, so discovering the bad guy among them will take you some time. But if you want more mystery than love story, this one might be right up your alley.

Make Me a Match Make Me a Match (Warner Forever) by Diana Holquist is next. This debut features Cecelia Burns, on the night of her engagement party, having to deal with her long-lost (and happily so) sister's return. And discovering that the man she's set to wed isn't her 'True Love'. But she's not interested in passion and all the drama that goes with it. She likes her safe, boring life and just wants her crazy sister gone. But then Finn Concord comes to town, and he just happens to have the same name as the man her sister claims is her True Love. Oh, and he might be dying. This one is very busy. It was cute, but not a keeper for me. From the look of things, though, there may be more to come here--how can her sister not have a story after all that goes on in this one? And that is one book I'd definitely be interested in checking out.

Until next time, happy reading!
