Sex and the Single Ghost (Kensington) by Tawny Taylor is up first, with newly-reanimated Claire Weiss starting off her nine days back on earth with the man of her fantasies. While she was alive, that is. And Jake Faron is still as hot as she remembered. But she has other plans for her nine days, including finding out why she was killed nine years ago. Another thing she doesn't know is that Jake is also dead. Interesting concept, I admit, but not for me. The tone is too chick-lit for me. And, while there's plenty of sex, there's not enough romance in it for me either. I'm sure fans of light, smart-alecky stories will disagree with me on this one, but it just didn't grab me.
My Immortal Highlander (Brava) has stories by Hannah Howell and Lynsay Sands, in a continuation of their Immortals series. I already knew this one wasn't for me, having read the first book quite some time ago. But fans of the series will most likely want to grab this one. Identical twins Bothan and Calum MacNachton have to find ordinary mortal brides. Bothan gets Kenna Brodie and Calum Sarra DeCourcey. And, for those interested, the Howell story is far hotter than the Sands.
Writing the Great American Romance Novel (Allworth Press) by Catherine Lanigan is next, though this one is solely for the romance writers out there, rather than readers. By now, you all know I rarely take a look at non-fiction, but I couldn't resist this one. Written by the prolific (and sorely missed in the last few years) Catherine Lanigan, this one is filled with tips on getting your romance novel written, polished and submitted to editors and agents, as well as info on what comes after you get The Call. It isn't often that aspiring romance authors will come across such a resource-filled book as this one, and if you're starting out, or stuck in the middle somewhere, this book will surely have something in it you will find useful in your trek from aspiring to published romance author. The only bad thing about this one was that it made me long for a new romance from Ms. Lanigan. Perhaps soon.... In the meantime, I'm also adding this one to the recommended reading list over in the authors' resource area of this site. It's definitely a keeper.
Until next time, happy reading!
