Fun Vacations With Purpose

Is it time to unwind, rejuvenate and relax? Vacations can be relaxing and much more. You can plan an exciting volunteerism vacation in an exotic location or stay closer to home learning a new skill. Today you’re only limited by your own imagination when planning a fun and purposeful vacation.

Vacations are an important part of enjoying life. In fact, many medical professionals believe vacations are a necessity for emotional and physical well-being. A well thought out vacation allows you the time to step out of the day-to-day routine and try new things. Have you noticed that the trend seems to be leaning more toward vacations with a purpose?

A fun vacation can be a few days to a few weeks long. Vacationing in your own backyard can be just as much fun as going to far away exotic places. Vacationing is as much a mind set, as it is a destination. It’s up to you to decide your purpose – rest and relaxation, learning and experiencing new things, volunteering and helping others, etc. It’s your vacation, your time and your choice.

There seems to be a new trend in vacations. Modern day vacationers still want fun and relaxation but with a purpose. How about you? Have you been thinking about doing something different for your next vacation?

Here are a few suggestions for fun vacations with a purpose:

1. Here’s a vacation idea that can be done close to home. Do you love going to museums or the local art gallery? Would you consider yourself a bit of an expert? How about a day or two vacation with a purpose? Volunteer to lead a scout troop or local art class on a narrated tour of a local museum or gallery. Use your expertise to educate others.

2. Spend a week taking dance lessons. This one is good for mind, body and spirit. Has learning to tango, waltz or tap been a dream of yours? You can travel to a romantic city like Vienna for waltz lessons or stay closer to home and arrange time at the local dance studio. The key is that you are doing something for yourself and having fun too.

3. Take a wine tasting course in Napa Valley. Stay in a beautiful location and learn the art of wine making and tasting. Or, if you really want to be adventurous, go to Scotland and tour a distillery and learn how to blend fine scotch.

4. Volunteerism is a great personal or family vacation. Your vacation can be a few days or a few months. The focus is a charitable cause in which you’re willing to donate “sweat equity.” Web travel companies such as Travelocity are beginning to offer short term volunteer opportunity vacations. Some areas of interest are: Animal welfare, children's issues, poverty, health and safety, community development and the environment.

5. Of course there are always the total pampering vacations. There is nothing wrong, and everything right, with totally spending time relaxing, rejuvenating and chilling out. The whole purpose is a few days to yourself so you’ll come back feeling renewed and refreshed.

There are so many choices for fun and purposeful vacations. Remember, the purpose of a true vacation is to reduce stress and enhance your overall well-being. How you choose to do those things, is entirely up to you. The key is to enjoy and have fun!
