Oregon High Desert RV Vacation

Had Clark W. Griswold stumbled upon the Kah-Nee-Ta High Desert Resort & Casino during his travels, he probably would have loved it. Why? Because this resort and casino, located less than two hours from Portland, makes for the perfect family-friendly vacation destination. And to make it even better, it’s also an ideal getaway for RVers of any age.

The Village Area
The RV park is located in the Village area of the resort and offers 51 full-hookup sites, many of them situated in full shade (which comes in handy on hot days). There are also several pull through sites for those staying shorter lengths of time. No matter what site you get, you’ll be treated to stunning views of the surrounding desert cliffs and access to the lush, green and meticulously manicured lawns.

Once you’re settled into your site, you’ll head toward the Teepee Area, which is reminiscent of 1970s car road trips. The Teepee Area comes complete with a large, communal fire pit, just right for chatting with your neighbors while roasting vegan marshmallows on a stick. You might stop in the sparkling clean communal bathrooms on your way to the biggest draw of the Village area--the double Olympic-sized hot springs mineral pool. The pool is open year round and is always heated to a temperature that you can just melt right into. And the cool part? Pool passes are part of your RV site fee for up to three people.

The children’s wading pool is ideal for those just wanting to get their feet wet. Once your little one feels brave enough, he or she can graduate to the nearest shallow pool that starts out at only two feet deep--perfect for toddlers learning how to swim. For an extra $4, you can buy a bracelet that allows access to the two waterslides as well. The fact that lifeguards always on duty at this pool that is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. is another plus. Other nearby activities include volleyball, basketball, mini golf, and a playground. The Village area also features a snack bar, a gift shop that sells souvenirs and sundries, and a full-service spa for those seeking a little extra pampering.

The Lodge and Casino
The Lodge is just a shuttle ride away where patrons will find several places to eat, including the Appaloosa Lounge which offers outdoor seating along with a 9 foot projection screen for those into watching the big game. The Juniper Room serves dinner during the summer time in an elegant, yet super relaxed atmosphere. The more casual restaurant, The Chinook Room, features unparalleled panoramic views of the desert scenery surround the lodge. And if the adults want to sneak away for a little adult-style entertainment, the casino offers several blackjack tables and over 300 slot machines.

Other Amenities
Kah-Nee-Ta Resort and Casino also offers concerts, summer buffets, a par 72 championship golf course, flexible meeting spaces, along with plenty of other summer recreational opportunities like movie and game nights, tribal dancing, and much more.
