Diary of a Mad Fat Girl Book Review

Diary of a Mad Fat Girl is a misleading title. I bought this book thinking it would be a similar other stories I had read about over weight women dealing with body image issues through humor. This novel bounces right into the drama. We have Ace who teaches art at a southern high school and has broken up with Mason, the love of her life since they were 11 years old, once again. Her best friend Lilly has a "mysterious gentleman" friend who is taking up her time and Chloe, the school counselor has a rich, but verbally abusive husband who finally becomes physically abusive.

The story is told through Ace, although I think the story could have been even more interesting if we saw the story through each character. Ace distracts herself from her personal problems by focusing on her friends. Ace and Lilly get Chloe fired up about the abuse she is going through with her husband. There is a big scheme of revenge in the story that is a little over the top but you become a cheerleader as the story goes on for the women. Lilly also seeks a way to get back at her boss when she is accused of sleeping with one of the students at the school.

This book was a wild ride to the end. Normally I really hate how stories end but this one had me cheering out loud! There are some parts where you may wander what in the world was the author thinking but this is her first book, self published. It is a great first try for Stephanie. While poking around the internet for more information about the author, I discovered that Diary of a Mad Fat Girl has been picked up by Penguin Books and will be re-released in February! I may have to buy the new edition to see what changes Stephanie has made to the book! See the website links below for more information on the new release and to also read the blog of character Ace!
