Travel Gifts for Children

Looking for travel related gifts for a child in your life? Here are a dozen ideas to choose from.

1. A water bottle. With all the hype over unsafe plastics and the environmental impact of disposable bottles, an aluminum water bottle is a smart choice. For something fun that kids will love, check out Sigg brand water bottles. They manufacture an amazing array of colors and designs, plus the bottles are unbreakable.

2. A travel pillow. Entice kids to take a nap on the plane or car trip with a fun travel pillow. The company Lewis and Clark manufactures a great selection of cozy neck pillows with animal designs.

3. A rolling suitcase. Kids always want to bring everything on vacation, so make it easy on them and you by purchasing a carry-on sized rolling suitcase. They can fill it up with whatever they want and you won’t have to lug it around. Make sure to check airline regulations before purchasing to make sure it will be allowed on board.

4. An LED light. Kids can get scared sleeping in strange places so a tiny little flashlight is a great companion, allowing them to navigate an unfamiliar room in the dark or read without disturbing a sibling. Choose an LED light for longer life.

5. A sleeping bag. If you want a serious bag for camping, check out L.L. Bean. They offers time-tested, sturdy bags in a couple of child friendly prints. If you don’t need the bag for camping, Bazoongi Kids offers a big selection of sleeping bags in fun prints.

6. A bath wrap. For destinations where you need to bring linens (or just for going to the beach) a cute bath wrap makes a great gift. Check out the animal designs from Lands End.

7. Magnetic travel games. Whether its checkers, backgammon, or hangman, these old standbys make travel time fly. Plus the pieces are less likely to get lost.

8. Audio books. Give kids something different to do during your next long flight or road trip. An audio book is a great companion that can be listened to over and over again. There’s something for every age, from Dr. Seuss to The Chronicles of Narnia.

9. Nightlights. If your child is a bit leery of the dark, a travel nightlight is a thoughtful gift. Even better, give your child a pack of glow sticks (available in camping departments). They’ll only last one night, but they offer a reassuring glow whether you’re driving in the dark or sleeping in an unfamiliar house.

10. Handheld video games. These can really buy you a lot of whine-free travel time. For younger kids, try LeapFrog games, for older kids a Nintendo DS is a popular choice.

11. A toothbrush. Everyone needs a travel toothbrush and they make nice stocking stuffers. Make this gift stand out by choosing a fun design or glittery color.

12. Madlibs. This is a great paper and pen game kids can play alone or with a sibling. Keep a couple in the car and pull them out when the kids
