Great Lakes Festivals

If you are looking for some festivals and outdoor events to attend in the Great Lakes region this summer and fall, Iíve found several you might enjoy.

The Maritime Days Heritage Festival will be held in Port Washington, Wisconsin. Those who attend will find crafts, enjoy music, and can participate in historic activities that connect nicely with the Great Lakes region. This year, three ships will be available for people to see and tour: The Niagara, Friends Good Will, and The Pride of Baltimore II. This event will be held in mid August.

Many towns across the region have festivals to celebrate. You should have a good time at any townís festival you attend.

In Rock Creek, Ohio, the Great Lakes Medieval Faire will begin in early July and run through mid August. This festival is set in the 13th century and offers food, artisans, and entertainment while giving you the feel that you are actually in that time period. You will enjoy the beautiful costumes that the actors wear from that time period along with their usage of the 13th century language while the actors give their all in their medieval character roles.

Again in mid August is another event to be held in East Lansing, Michigan, The Great Lakes Folk Festival. If you love to dance, get on some comfortable shoes and feel free to move to a variety of music that will include Celtic, Latino, blues, polka and more. This cultural event will be held in mid August. Arts, food and childrenís activities will also be available.

Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin will host Pure Water Days in mid August. Visitors will enjoy music, arts and crafts, a farmerís market, half marathon, and can take in a tour of area historical buildings. A large parade and fireworks will also be part of the event. For over 30 years Chippewa Falls has proudly held this annual event.

The Great Lakes Lighthouse Festival is scheduled the first week of October in Alpena, Michigan. Lighthouse tours will be available, artists will be selling their work and nautical guest speakers will be there to entertain. Boat tours, lighthouse exhibits and authors will also be available during the festival.

Our area festivals are numerous throughout the summer and fall season. Whichever ones you attend, enjoy the fun and entertainment! And donít forget to have some cheese curds and cotton candy!
