Gift Registries

Some couples these days have already established households of their own. Together they would own their share of toasters, microwaves, blenders, sheets and coffee makers. You get the point. They are coming from individual households they have already built up. Here is where gift-buying difficulties begin.

This is why a good gift registry does its job. The bride and groom can decide together what it is they will need to complete the household. Choosing china patterns, crystal, colors, needs and desires helps the couple build their communication skills. It also helps them take their individual spaces and form a home together.

There is always debate about gift registries. Some people think it is impolite to say what it is you would like. Asking for things that seem out of line. Why would the couple need Waterford Crystal? Others feel it is a great idea, why spend hard earned money on something the couple does not need.

In my opinion gift registries are great. When you actually start looking at what the couple has chosen, you get an insight into a little of each of their personalities, a feeling for their style. Great ideas start to brew, and you can wander off the list and create something unique for a gift. The perfect gift creates a happy couple.

Now we get to the etiquette part. Please do not announce gift registries in an invitation or a save the date. Let family and friends pass the word. They can let the guests know where to look, without seeming pushy or suggestive.

Choosing registries is purely up to personal taste. Try to limit registries to two choices at the most, I personally advise only one. I would make the one a quality site, with a large selection. Macyís, JC Penny, Sears, just a few suggestions in the very many registries. I pick these because these stores are available in all the little nooks and crannies of the USA. They also offer great websites, for the armchair shopper. Look for a store that offers quality and choices.

So when you are trying to decide on a gift for the couple, find out where they have registered, look at the list for inspiration. Make your choices, and there you have it. They really donít need four toasters. If you still canít decide, good old-fashioned cash always works.
