Long gone are the days where most campgrounds are just woodsy areas filled with campsites, a few trails, and if youíre lucky, some access to water. These days, campgrounds and RV resorts are filled with a surplus of amenities like pools, clubhouses, fitness centers, day spas and more. Below are eight interesting campground amenities that you might find on your next RV trip.
Horse Camping -- Want to go camping but prefer to take your horses with you? Thatís an option at many campgrounds around the country. For instance, within the Oregon State Park system, there are eight campgrounds that offer equestrian trails and sites that include horse corrals. Three of those campgrounds are located right on the Pacific Ocean.
Water Parks and Amusement Parks -- Although many RV parks list a pool as one of their amenities, not all of them can boast a water park or amusement park. Places like Carowinds in Charlotte, NC or Silverwood Theme Park in Athol, ID offer both an amusement park and a water park. There is bound to be a fun-filled park like this within a few hoursí drive from most RVers.
RV and Car Wash -- One of the things many RVers worry about when traveling is where to wash their rigs. Oftentimes, many campgrounds wonít let you wash vehicles at your site. Charleston Peak RV Resort in Pahrump, NV solves that problem for their guests by offering an RV and car wash right at their resort.
Fly-in Campsites -- During a recent stay at
Nehalem Bay State Park, I came across my first-ever fly-in site and campground airstrip. How is that for making sure to service all kinds of campers?
Hot Springs -- There are tons of RV parks around the country that feature hot springs as part of the appeal of their RV park. For more details, check out my previous article titled ďRV Friendly Hot Spring Resorts.Ē
Wine Tasting -- For those who like to imbibe in delicious wines, an RV park with an on-site winery is a pretty great find. Carmela Vineyards in Glenns Ferry, ID, Wiederkehr Wine Cellars in the Ozark Mountains in Arkansas, and the Pahrump Valley Winery in Pahrump, Nevada both feature full-service RV parks either on-site or within walking distance.
Casino -- Go to many of the big gambling towns like Reno and Las Vegas, and youíll find RV parks attached to several casinos. The Las Vegas KOA at Circus Circus campground in Las Vegas is located right on the Las Vegas Strip. Canít get any closer to the action than that! Head a little farther out of town and youíll discover many casinos located on Indian reservations also have full-service RV parks.
Room Service -- OK, well itís not exactly room service, but some luxury RV resorts will deliver your meals to you room service style. Nemacolin's Maggie Valley RV Park in Farmington, PA is one such park that specializes in bringing resort hotel style amenities to their RV guests.
