Judith McAllister has been singing and praising God with a strong powerful voice and a heart for worship for many years. A self-taught pianist, McAllister came to the attention of the music world in the 90's as the dynamic worship leader for the West Angeles Church of God in Christ. With the release of the DVD "In His Presence" she offers viewers a smooth, visually clear and elegant project that ushers them to worship God with ease.
If you are looking for a high energy, jumping up and down praise fest DVD (Think..."Oh Give Thanks") this is not that project. Instead she opens up the DVD with a drum pounding, African flavored "To Our God" where she uses that rich alto voice to sing of giving praises to our God. Dressed in beautiful African attire, McAllister and her background singers serve up a motherland worship tune for all. I fully expected to see African dancers join her and her group on stage. Although that never happened, her powerful vocals turn this tune into a full bodied anthem and sound the alarm for the viewer that this is going to be a DVD that delivers nothing but pure worship.
Next she moves to the island enhanced beat of "We Sing Praises" this mellow and jazzy joint makes you think of Kim Burrell or Dianne Reeves. It's a nice tune and since the chorus is divided by parts at one point it showcases the wonderful voices of each of her background singers well.
The sweet ballad "One Thing" allows McAllister to shine as the crystal clear alto that she is famous for sings beautifully of the desire to dwell with God.
Not all of the songs on the DVD are laid back; the festive "Zion Rejoice" is an upbeat praise song that allows the viewer to get their praise party on.
Finally the standout of the entire project her hit single "Like the Dew/Rain" ends the live recording with a kick and you can't help but join in on the chorus "Rain, Move, Yes....Yes...Yes..." say yes to this DVD and you will be glad you did.
