Prayer

This is a means by which believers communicate with God and receive guidance for their lives.

It is Asking, meaning a demand made with urgency or persistence

It is Petitioning meaning making a formal request

We pray for ourselves or for others. We can also pray in thanksgiving. Thanking God for His care and for His love or for His creation.

Luke 6:12
One day soon afterward Jesus went to a mountain to pray, and he prayed to God all night.
Even the Son of God felt the need to be in prayer. He was in close communication with His Father.

Matthew 7:7
ďKeep on asking, and you will be given what you ask for. Keep on looking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened.
Jesus says to pray and to keep on praying.

1 Chronicles 16:11
Search for the LORD and for his strength,
and keep on searching.

Proverbs 15:8
The LORD hates the sacrifice of the wicked, but he delights in the prayers of the upright.

Prayer is a sincere communication between God and us. We donít have to worry about proving to someone else how pious or intellectual we are. In prayer, our approval comes from God.

You are asking your Creator to make His Kingdom a reality in your life. Ask Him to work in you until your will conforms to His. Trust Him to supply your daily needs because you know that He, in His perfect wisdom, knows exactly what you need.

For the miracle of prayer to begin working in our lives we must do one thing. Pray, earnestly, consistently and persistently. The more I study what Jesus taught, the more I believe that my prayers will be answered. I know that it will be in Godís time and according to His judgment, and thatís good enough for me.

"A true prayer is an inventory of wants, a catalogue of necessities, a revelation of hidden poverty. While it is an application to divine wealth, it is a confession of human emptiness."
C.H. Spurgeon Morning and evening : Daily readings
