Mini 8 Inch Baby Dolls - How to Sew Pants

Here are instructions for making pants to fit 8 inch (20cm) mini baby dolls such as Gotz Mini Muffin, Corolle Mini Calin, Zapf Mini Chou Chou, and baby dolls with similar body types.

This pants pattern is for a boy or girl, according to the material you choose and how you complete the outfit. Click for pattern for pants.

You'll see on the one pattern piece for pants that there is a capital A. and a capital B. I think this will make sewing directions easier to understand.

First, cut out two pants on fold.

Then open out pants pieces right sides facing each other.

Sew the middle seams - A. - together to make pants center front and pants center back. Keep in mind that the fold line is the side of the legs.

To sew inside leg seams - B. - together, pants front and pants back should be facing each other with seam B. in the center. Sew up right leg side to crotch and then down to left ankle. Look at photo of pants for help if need be.

To hem lower leg edge turn up seam twice or roll up edge and blind stitch. I have slightly gathered the lower leg edges for that kind of look, but it is your choice.

Turn down waist one eighth inch then one quarter inch and sew. Run a narrow piece of elastic through the casing and tack the end. Make the length of elastic the same as your doll's waist.

Alternately, instead of running elastic through the casing, if your doll has a bean bag body like my 8 inch Mini Muffin just gather the waist enough to keep the pants up. I use quilting thread when I gather seams at the waist and lower leg edges.

Now, you have a completed pair of pants. Sewing time for me totally by hand was one half hour. So, it would be easy to create a whole wardrobe for a boy or girl!
