It's really not as difficult as you may think. Love poetry is actually putting your true emotions into words on paper.
You should focus on your feelings and abandon the preconceived notion that poems must rhyme. Delve inside yourself and target the passion you possess when you think about the person you're in love with.
Do not hesitate to write the first thoughts that come to mind. Just put your pencil to the paper (or your fingers to your keyboard) and jot down the words to describe the immediate images you're visualizing.
Reflect on things like -
the first time you saw his face
how his cologne smells when you're cuddling
the way he looks at you when he's happy
how his eyes light up when he sees you coming
what happened on your first date
where you went on your first vacation together
what you love to do with him every night
where you go out to on weekends (your favorite restaurant or recreational activity)
and basically just all the things you love about him...
Do not agonize over picking the "perfect" word or phrase that will rhyme with the next.
After writing as much as you can manage to think of, take a deep breath and a moment to relax a little bit... Then read your prose silently to yourself. Perhaps your own words will trigger more emotions.
When you feel confident that you've collected most of your thoughts, read what you wrote aloud. Maybe you'll want to change some words (by using a thesaurus to help you choose a more meaningful word). You may also decide to rearrange the initial order of your ideas to better convey your message. Revise your prose until you feel positive that you've created a compelling love poem!
