There are few positive representations in the media of plus size women (or men). They are often looked at in disgust, made fun of, criticized for gluttony and being an all around hindrance on society. More and more factions are coming together to share in the uniqueness of women in their many forms.
Who's Les Toil?
Les Toil is an artist who has been working on plus size pin-ups for almost a decade. He tried other forms of art but was always drawn back to the plus size form. They are what he calls, "living, breathing Venus de Milos." I have to agree.
He studied at the Academy of Art in San Francisco and like most artists it has taken time for him to develop a name and reputation for himself; despite this, he is one of the most revered artists in the plus size community.
What's a Toil Girl?
You might be wondering at this point what a Toil Girl is. Well, they are the artistic interpretations of plus size women by artist Les Toil. His pin-up girl creations are spurred by real women with real curves and real lives and often reflect some aspect of their character and interests. Les Toil's Toil Girls are sexy, colourful and fresh, always showing plus size women in a positive light instead of what popular media would have many believe.
Over the last few weeks I have met a few of them. They are an inspirational bunch of women and I hope you enjoy getting acquainted with them. Who knows, you may decide to become the next Toil Girl Pin-up.
Meet Some Toil Girls
After you check out the Toil Girl interviews please visit Les Toil's website to read more about this artist and see even more Toil Girls. You won't find an ad-laden website or annoying music but you do have to allow for pop-ups as the pin-up images will open into their own window.
One of the things I like about Les Toil's website is the obvious time taken in not only creating the art work but the effort in getting to know each woman and share them with the world. It's apparent from the accompanying essays about the history of the pin-up and the woman featured that he didn't enter into any project lightly.
Now that you've become a fan you can join the official fan club (see related links below) with nearly 2000 members.
