Childrenīs Discovery Museum

Children's Discovery Museum The Children's Discovery Museum in Acton Massachusetts is located on Route 27 right over the Maynard line. Look for the big dinosaur out front.

The museum is a one hundred year old Victorian house now converted into a very cute interactive discovery zone for children. It's great for the preschool and kindergarten crowd. Admission is $8 per person and $12 per person if you also want to visit the Children's Science Museum right next door. If you live in Massachusetts, check your local library for discount passes. My children and I got in for $1 each. A nice savings.

Each room in the museum has a different theme - trains, balls, bubbles, under the sea, boat, diner, rainbow, safari, etc.

The train room has a large train the kids can play in, along with a ticket window, and little wooden magnet trains on tracks.Train Room
Ball RoomBall Room
The ball room has many tracks that you can roll balls into. They get fairly complicated with a man in a parachute, dominoes, and bells. the kids need to make sure some of the things are setup before they put a ball into some of the chutes.

Bubble RoomThe Bubble Room had a converted shower stall in which you can stand and pull up a huge bubble around yourself. Hannah is playing in the water with the toys. There are waterproof aprons for your children to put on in case they get wild with the water.Bubble Room

Rainbow Room Rainbow Room The Rainbow Room is on the second floor. There is a rainbow puzzle on one wall where you can put puzzle pieces into the rainbow - be sure to match the colors. On another wall are some color wheels that turn into a certain color when you spin them. In the middle of the room is a slide with steps that light up. This was my 2 1/2 year old's favorite thing in the Rainbow Room.
Safari Room The Safari Room is near the Rainbow Room and the Diner Room on the second floor. Here is Hannah going into a log slide with a zebra costume on. The Woods Room is next door and there are also costumes for that room. In both rooms, there are lots of cubby holes for the kids to explore and things to climb on.

On the third floor is the Boat Room. There is a speaker with ocean sounds, they can pull up a lobster trap, look at a wind sock to see if the wind is blowing, more cubby holes to explore. Be very careful exiting the Boat Room, the stairs are right outside the doorway and your child can easily fall down the stairs which are quite steep.

My kids had a great time exploring everything in the museum and I am definitely considering taking my little girl again.
