The Meyers Parrot is from the Poicephalus family and are native to central and eastern Africa where they live in relative good numbers. They make very good pets and are a nice size (8 - 9 inches) for anyone to handle. The more familiar Senegal Parrot is also a member of the Poicephalus family.
Meyers Parrots can talk, but do not normally have a large vocabulary. They will also mimic familiar sounds, such as the microwave oven, squeeky doors and telephones.
Odie is quite a character. He loves being with his mom Melissa, especially when they are away from home. At home he is sometimes a brat!
This picture was taken at Oak Hammock Marsh in Manitoba when the Parrot Club of Manitoba attended for their annual visit for Snowbird Beach Days.
