Wolf River

Hello, and welcome back! It feels more like summer this week than spring, and I'm wishing for spring, warm but not sticky and hot. I guess Mother Nature has other ideas. I'm just about through the May books now, barring any late arrivals, and this time out, I have three to share with you.

Spirited Away (Signet Eclipse) by Cindy Miles is up first. Andi Monroe has wanted to find out more about Dreadmoor Castle for years, but the reclusive owner doesn't want people digging up the place. When a storm uproots an ancient find, Andi gets to try out her archaeological skills after all. And discovers that the owner has reasons other than eccentricity for the reclusiveness. Tristan de Barre has been stuck on his estate with his murdered men for seven hundred years now, and Andi is about to liven things up. Literally. This one is quirky and cute, and mostly sweet. I found myself comparing it, however, to Sara Mackenzie's ghost series, and this one came up short. This one's earned three of Cupid's five arrows. Not a keeper, but cute.

Kiss of Midnight (Bantam Dell) by Lara Adrian is next. Gabrielle Maxwell has just discovered there are monsters afoot in the world. Lucan Thorne is supposed to protect his world and Gabrielle's, and now he's got to protect Gabrielle personally. This one starts off too violently for me. I stopped actually reading early on and skimmed through the remainder of the book. If you're a fan of J. R. Ward or Lynn Viehl, this should be right up your alley with the dark and tortured hero.

Wolf River(Bantam) by Jill Gregory is up last. Erinn Winters has just gotten the information she'd been wanting for a long time: her sister's location. But her arrival in Wolf River, Montana isn't as smooth or easy as she'd like. Jase Fortune is trying to keep his family ranch protected, but he suspects the person Erinn's sister is involved with is the same man sabotaging the ranch. This one is filled with characters you might meet any given day, people with real problems, real emotions. And it will keep you reading until the very end, when you'll be sorry to see the story conclude. A very good read, this one's earned four arrows.

Until next time, happy reading!
