There is a perfect time for everything. Perfecting your spellwork comes with practice. Lets explore timing your spells to add depth to the ritual. In this first of Spellwork series, we will look at the most well known timing, the moon.
Spells by the Moon
Watching and learning the phases of the moon is a very important part of connecting with the earth. The moon has 4 phases: New moon, waxing moon, full moon and waning. Each phase has its own particular strengths. Each phase lasts 7 days with 3 days before and 3 after. The entire cycle of all 4 phases make up the 28 day lunar cycle.
New moon is a great time for healing work. Casting positive spells or drawing spells are especially fruitful at this time. This is also good for planting herbs that grow above ground and reseed themselves, above ground crops such as corn and onions are good to plant now too.
Waxing moon is a powerful time magically speaking. Energies are balanced. It is a time of increase as the full moon is approaching. Spellwork for increasing money, balance and harmony in a relationship are good during this time. Planting seedpod bearing plants now such as beans and peas.
Full moon is a time for the most powerful, positive magic as it is the height of energy then. For the most impact, time your work to be done within the three days before vs the three days after as energy is increasing up to the actual moment that the moon is full. Then even though it is still the full moon phase, energy is decreasing from that point on. For your garden, all things that grow below the ground like bulbs and root crops should be planted now.
Waning moon is a time for releasing unwanted negativity in our lives.Banishing spells are timely now. Meditation is especially useful at this time. For planting, the waning moon is the best time to plant perennials and trees. Root vegetables should be planted now as well.
This is a rudimentary idea of moon phases. There is far more surrounding moon knowledge that can take a lifetime to learn. If you feel drawn to learning moon magic there are wonderful charts to keep track of the moon phases at a glance. I have included a few links for you.
Next week we will look at another form of timing your spells, days of the week.
