Los Angeles Times

The Los Angeles Times is a daily Californian paper with an online entertainment calendar that highlights major topics like: Arts & Museums, Books & Talks, Family & Festivals, Movies, Music, Night Life, Restaurants, Theater and Dance, TV & Radio. The whole site is chock-full of news and reviews on each topic but of course one of the best is their Books & Talks section which in itself contains many worthwhile features for the avid book reader.

If you live in the California area you can use their search box to find the latest happenings, like lectures and book signings, occurring at the surrounding bookstores and libraries. But for the rest of us, there are a number of articles on the book industry, reviews of the latest releases, and news on the hottest authors.

The top five books in the Los Angeles Times Best Sellers list can be seen from the main Books & Talks page. You can click on it to see a full top ten list with author and the briefest of book descriptions. This is one of the features I like best. I can decide at a glance if I want to go on to read further descriptions of the book or keep looking. This list also tells you how long it has been popular by showing how many weeks it's been on their top list. One of the unfortunate things is this list includes a wide variance of fiction. Another is that you can't click on the books in the list to read relating reviews.

The Los Angeles Times also shares best sellers 'lists' from other sources including the Wall Street Journal, USA Today and Publisher's Weekly; although I'd rather visit their websites to see them than scroll through the text list that isn't really visually appealing or easy to view.

If you want to be on top of the Los Angeles daily book reviews, news and such you can add Books & Talks to your RSS reader.
