June is the perfect time of year to initiate an Alex's Lemonade Stand fundraiser and CBS 3 will be riding this wave, June 7th, by hosting a full day of fundraising for Alex's Lemonade Stand. The fundraiser will be broadcast live in the station's HD Broadcast Center.

The backstory of how the charity was founded, inspires the heart and mind. In 2000, a four year old, Alexandra Scott, set up a lemonade stand in an effort to help her doctors find a cure for childhood cancer with which she was afflicted.

I've come across parents and family members who have supported their loved ones by setting up charities to raise awareness, but never a child quite as young as Alex. Her entrepreneurial spirit, creativity and ability to motivate others deserves our admiration and awe.

Her enterprising initiative set into motion thousands of lemonade stands and fundraisers around the country. The participants who followed suit consisted of schools, non-profits, businesses and individuals working toward the mission of raising awareness and funds for pediatric cancer.

In 2004, at the age of eight, the brainchild of the endeavor, Alex Scott, passed away, but not without leaving a legacy, and raising $ 1 million dollars for a childhood cancer cure.

The Alex Scott phone bank will air within special segments from 6 am- 8 PM EST throughout the daily broadcast and the public will be encouraged to make pledges for the cause- either by check or credit card by calling: 1 877- 599-3275.

It appears the upcoming event motivated several CBS 3 anchors to help be on hand to operate the phone bank and take pledges alongside Alex's parents, Jay and Liz Scott.

The event will offer educational and informative documentary excerpts drawn from "Alex Scott: A Stand For Hope" which chronicles Alex's life.

It's inspiring to have a three- dimensional representation of Alex in the form of film clips offered during the broadcast. The documentary garnered critical acclaim including a Sigma Delta Chi Award from the Society of Professional Journalists.
