Patti LaBelle performing. The Super Bowl Gospel Celebration was an event to remember with performances by some of the top Gospel acts on the scene.
Celebrations were in full swing with performances by Mary Mary, Pattie LaBelle and the legendary Winans. I spoke with the Winans backstage and this was the first event the brothers had performed since the recent passing of Ronald Winans. "This is going to be a tough one" said Carvin Winans "But we know that he will be looking down on us and enjoying the show," he added.

I also caught up with Cookie Johnson who stated that the Winans was one of the main reasons she wanted to attend the event. "They are one of my favorite groups and I can't wait to see them perform" said Johnson.
The show was a great one and even featured several NFL Players singing gospel songs including a wonderful rendition of "I Won't Complain" by a group of them led by Tommie Harris of the Chicago Bears. Other players that took up the microphone were Michael Gaines of the Carolina Panthers, Allen Rossum of the Atlanta Falcons, Richard Seymour of the New England Patriots and Roland Williams of the St. Louis Rams who emceed the event.
Sponsored by Sam's Club, athletes, musicians and Gospel music lovers from all over packed in the 4000 seat cathedral.
Detroit was represented by performances from Karen Clark Sheared, Marvin Sapp and Race Allen to name a few.
Melanie Few and the gang did it up again I can't wait to check it out next year.
