Nancy moves to a new home, leaving behind her boyfriend, and has to start life over in a new High School. She finds that she does not fit in with the locals very well, until she befriends Corky (Josh Flitter). Together, they learn about the mysterious death of a famous actress, and Nancy instinctively sets off to solve the mystery. Knowing Nancy, things can get a little scary and many adventures will unfold.
The movie is rated PG for scenes that include violence, thematic elements, and brief language. For those of us who are not movie-versed, "thematic elements" is a fancy way to state that the motive of a movie might not be suitable for younger audiences. In this instance, the motive is a murder, which parents may take into consideration whether or not they want their child subjective to this theme.
Emma Roberts has starred in the Nickelodeon series, "Unfabulous," for the past three years, where she has been nominated for Best Leading Young Actress in a TV Series and for Best Ensemble. In addition, she has been named Female Star of Tomorrow at ShoWest. She has been on the cover of some popular magazines, including Elle Girl, Time, and People, among others.
Other young stars in this movie include Rachel Leigh Cook (She's All That, Get Carter, The Big Empty), Max Thieriot (Catch That Kid, The Pacifier, The Astronaut Farmer), and Josh Flitter (License to Wed, Big Momma's House 2, and The Greatest Game Ever Played). They play along side great film actors Barry Bostwick (as Dashiel Biedermeyer) and Tate Donovan (as Nancy's father).
So, can this new Nancy Drew pull off the high expectations that people will be looking for based on the 1948-1986 novels? This favorite teenage detective hopes so. Producers and directors are resting easy that they can provide the same timeless quality of the Nancy Drew book series while integrating some modern day scenes and situations that would face any 16-year-old girl of today.
