A Callaway Golf Magazine

I remembered I had filled out a form on www.callawaygolf.com to receive the magazine but had forgotten about it until this slick magazine appeared in my mail. It seems sleek compared to one like Golf Digest and Golf Illustrated which are full of advertisements and this is strictly Callaway and only Callaway. This was fine with me since I use the Callaway Big Bertha clubs as that is why I signed up to receive this magazine.

The cover has a picture of Ernie Els who has just signed up to use all Callaway equipment and become one of their staff Professionals. In the welcome section of this magazine there is a summary by Ernie explaining why he switched to Callaway. He said that since his knee surgery and now feels injury free he is in better shape than ever. His goal is to give Tiger Woods a run for his money and believe that partnering up with Callaway will help him with this goal.

Ernie explained that when he was playing with Phil Mickleson at the last years Masters he was crushing the ball and would be 20 yards ahead of him. I remember raising my interest as before he and Phil always hit similar distance. He decided to work closely with Callaway technicians with their new FT-5 Driver and X-forged irons and found he adapted to them with ease. He mentioned that you can achieve success if you take the time and have your clubs custom fitted to you.

In the center of this magazine is an interview with Ernie Els by Staff Writer Steve Newell about Els decisions to switch equipment. In one question Els was asked what was it about Callaway that attracted you to this company. He responded by saying that Callaway Golf is at the forefront of golf equipment technology more so than any other company. He said it was good to be part of that environment and he liked the way they did things.

Ernie Els is known as the Big Easy for his easy going nature and answered all question by Steve Newell as to the technical aspect of Callaway clubs and balls. He responded to the question about the HX Tour 56 Golf Ball as from the first couple of weeks to how it performed, especially inside 100 yards and around the greens. He said he switched to the slightly harder feel of the HX Tour to give him better ball flight on the full shots.

I found this interview interesting and informative as at one point Ernie said his goal is to win the Grand Slam, as it has been a dream of his. He feels he has five or six good years ahead of him and maybe more. This interview goes on for three pages in this magazine and covers a lot of his life as he has homes in three countries, America, Great Britain and South Africa. He plays tournaments all over the world and also has an interest in golf course designing and investing in Wines. He also has a personal Fancourt Foundation where he works with junior golf program. He said that his parents were able to help him but feels there are some talented young golfers that need help.

Check out the full transcript of this interview online at www.callawaygolf.com/magazine it will give you a new perspective of Ernie Els and his easy going nature.
