PBS Shows Keep Kids Entertained, Too!

PBS offers great programming for kids! While the big cable stations have some great shows, PBS can run with the horses, too! Some of the best shows for preschoolers and grade-schoolers are found on PBS Kids and PBS Kids Sprout. Here are some of the best:

PBS Kids

Clifford the Big Red Dog- Clifford has been a hit with kids for a long time! What kid wouldn’t love a larger- than- life, lovable dog that’s kind and friendly to everyone! Find Clifford books at your local library or bookstore to continue following Clifford’s adventures after the show ends!

Super Why!- Super Why, Wonder Red, Alpha Pig, and Princess Presto to the rescue! Join them as they solve problems using magical books summoned by Princess Presto. Throughout the episode they collect “super letters” that provide the answer to the problem at the end of the show. It’s like solving a mystery each episode!

Angelina Ballerina- little girls will love this one! It’s about a little mouse named Angelina who’s a dancer and dreams of becoming a professional ballerina one day. Angelina Ballerina is based on the children’s book series by Katharine Holabird, so the fun doesn’t have to end when the show does!

PBS Kids Sprout

The Wiggles- kids love The Wiggles! This fantastic foursome is a children’s musical group dedicated to providing quality content for kids. They promote movement and music, and the show is a rocking good time!

Bob the Builder- another kids favorite, Bob the builder tackles a project every episode! His team is always very encouraging, and kids love to chime in to his signature “Can we fix it? Yes we can!” You can also find Bob the Builder books to read with your kids at libraries or in bookstores.

The Berenstain Bears- I’ve loved the Berenstain Bears since I was little! The show focuses on the relationships and dynamics between family and friends, and usually has a moral that is displayed through the plot- things like good behavior, helping with chores, and telling the truth are common themes. There is also a book series of the same name, too.

Thomas and Friends- Follow Thomas the Tank Engine all around the Island of Sodor for many exciting adventures! Thomas and the other trains in Sir Topham Hatt’s railway travel all around the island making new friends and being, to use Sir Topham Hatt’s expression, “really useful”. You can find Thomas books in your local library or bookstore as well.

These are just a few of the shows on the PBS stations. Tune in to PBS Kids and PBS Kids sprout to see all of the great shows these channels have to offer!
