Toby Keith – Big Dog Daddy

To honest, even as a fan of Tobys, I haven’t really liked his last two CD’s all that much. This one, on the other hand, I can honestly say I like. White Trash with Money gave us a glimpse of Toby starting to have fun again, Big Dog Daddy is Toby at his best. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that he had total control over this CD, he wrote, produced, released and even sang his own harmonies on some of the songs.

My favorite song on the CD is Hit It, it just has that southern rock/country feel and makes me want to get up and dance. Toby with total control has done a great job of bringing back his ballads and showing off that tenor that has melted many a fans heart.

Tracks:
High Maintenance Woman is typical Toby, a working class man watching someone out of his reach, knowing that she will need him sooner or later, even if it isn’t for the reasons he wants.

Love Me If You Can is about taking someone as they are, you don’t have to like all they do or believe in.

White Rose is about nostalgia and leaving behind things that meant something, like full service gas stations and our youth.

Get My Drink On is about drinking to forget the fact that his woman just left him for not treating her right.

Wouldn’t Wanna Be Ya is about the end of a relationship and his woman telling him “see ya, wouldn’t wanna be ya” as he heads West. Then he decides to go back and enjoy his time there.

Big Dog Daddy is a rocking tune in pure Toby fashion, just having fun and getting everyone on their feet and dancing in the club.

Burnin’ Moonlight talks about one of those nights on a country lane when you know your running low on gas and not really caring because the person you are with is more important.

Walk It Off although a sports term for getting over a minor injury, the song is about getting over a relationship that has ended.

I Know She Hung the Moon talks about knowing his woman is beautiful and that she won’t stray even if someone asks, even if it’s only a dance.

Pump Jack is another rocking tune that talks about dreams and how he lost a woman because of his.

Hit It, as I said is my favorite song off the album, is about taking chances and not being scared. If this one doesn’t get your toes to tapping you aren’t listening.
