It’s rare to find a jewelry artisan who single handedly creates─i.e. designs and hand-crafts─just about every kind of the jewelry I love to collect. But I have indeed found her. My love for turquoise, sterling silver, blue hued gemstones, pink jewelry whether gemstone or glass, pearls, wedding jewelry, and horse and or animal related jewelry made my recent visit to Quarry Jewelry a real treat. Who could possibly capture all of these special styles so wonderfully? What a find and I just had to share!
Jennifer Kennedy is the talented lady behind this stunning collection called Quarry Jewelry. With a sophisticated and easily navigable online shop, Quarry Jewelry took me by surprise. I immediately knew this was my kind of jewelry, but then to find so many of my favorites in one place. . . that was really incredible.
First clue I stumbled upon a (no pun intended) ‘goldmine’─I always look for an artist profile when I visit a website. I particularly like when I can read customer testimonials and read about how the artist feels about her work as in what inspires her. Well, this artist has artistic sensibility and fashion savvy galore and her considerable body of wearable art is a testament to her talent. Not only does Jennifer talk about her inspiration for the collection but the following is her philosophy as stated on the website:
“ I design pieces I would love to wear. I favor simple, clean lines and not overly embellished or cluttered pieces. All of my designs are original and each piece is handcrafted from natural gemstones and precious metals. I try to create timeless, classic and affordable works of art that you’ll enjoy wearing year after year.
I hope you enjoy browsing my site and find things that are unique, beautiful and meticulously crafted. If there is something specific you are looking for that you don’t see here, please email me and let me know. I may be able to create just what you are looking for.” Jennifer Kennedy
I must say I share the philosophy about designing and making jewelry (I am designing and hand-crafting my own line of jewelry these days─look for a launch of Cat’seye Dreams and Susan Dorling Designs later this summer or early Fall!). and love her jewelry!
For example, one of my pink favorites is the Pink Peruvian Opal Necklace described as:
“Gorgeous pink Peruvian opals in a variety of hues ranging from ballet pink to dusty rose, lavender and beige are accented by pink freshwater pearls in this most unusual necklace.
Twisted strands of pink rice pearls are connected to the opals with lucky sterling silver four leaf clovers. A beautiful faceted rose quartz drop is the centerpiece of this stunning design. 17 ½” with 1 ¾” sterling silver extender chain. Sterling silver S clasp. Only one available.” This beautiful piece is truly dramatic and resplendent in a bevy of pink opals and pearls.
From the turquoise offerings, one of my favorites is ‘Turquoise Coconut Grove Double Strand Bracelet’, a gorgeous piece with an exciting configuration of turquoise and other natural materials described as:
“Assorted turquoise beads mingle with a combination of coconut shell disks, wood coins and a mix of sterling silver Bali beads. Wear this limited-edition Quarry signature piece flat or twisted. 7 1/2” with a decorative square toggle. Please allow for slight variations in sterling beads selected for this bracelet.”
Totally exceeding my expectations for favorite blue jewelry, the ‘Nantucket Chalcedony Bracelet’ is amazing and described as:
“Flashy blue chalcedony drops are joined by freshwater pearls in this classic bracelet. A lovely accent to the season's nautical fashions. Finished with a sterling swirl toggle. 7 1/2" long.”
More than meeting my desire for lovely pearls, these are one of my favorite pearl designs from Quarry Jewelry is the ‘Pearl Nugget Bracelet’ as described in the online shop:
“Creamy white freshwater pearls and mother of pearl beads are joined together in this chunky bracelet which is finished with an oversized hammered sterling silver toggle.”
And finally, I love horses! I love all animals and animal jewelry and these Quarry horseshoe designs are impeccable. One of my favorites is the ‘Lexington Necklace’ described in this online shop as:
“An intensely colored faceted chrysicolla bead is hand-wired onto a twisted sterling horseshoe and connected to tobacco-colored Greek leather in this stunning design. A versatile piece that works equally well with jeans or dressy pants. Horseshoe measures just over 1 ½” long by 1 ¼” wide. Leather measures just over 15”. Finished with a sterling S hook clasp.”
If, like me, you have a hankering to collect these kinds of pieces, do yourself a favor and visit Quarry Jewelry
