I love magazines. I could spend hours looking through them. Because there are so many of them on the market its no wonder that it is hard for them to survive. There's pretty much a magazine for any topic. Recently, I can across Motto magazine. It has the tagline: Purpose, Passion, and Profit. Maybe the more people who know about it, the more likely it will enjoy an extended life.

One of my pet peeves when it comes to magazines is paying for what is usually a pricey magazine that is full of advertising. As I flipped through Motto I was presently surprised to see very little advertising.

Motto is an inspiring magazine full of articles and interviews about people who have been successful in different areas of their lives. Each article has a sidebar of the featured person's motto. For example Sean Swarner's is "Keep climbing" which developed out of his love of mountain climbing and encompasses his successful battle with Hodgkin's disease at age 13.

There were two articles in particular that hit home for me. The first, by Jon Gordon (www.jongordon.com) on Energy Vampires: "Realize that some people will board your bus and some people won't. That's OK. The people who get on were supposed to get on; those who don't were probably meant to get on another bus or perhaps would have ruined your ride. Just keep on driving with your vision focused on the road ahead. If you waste your energy thinking about the people who didn't get on your bus, you'll have less fuel to pick up the people who want to get on." What a great analogy for dealing with people.

The second was by Kathleen Kurre on The Thunder Bolt Question: "First, we can choose to accept any situation as it is, not as we wish it to be. Second, we can choose our strategy: offer others a different perspective, offer ourselves a different perspective, or leave.

I think both are similar and probably speak to where I am in my life right now but they give you a image of the ideas and concepts within Motto Magazine and its purpose.
