How far is too far when it comes to fans and the artist they admire? When the news broke that a couple of fans crossed the line at the Soul 2 Soul tour of Faith Hill and Tim McGraw people lined up to voice their opinions.

Tim McGraw was walking between the stage and the barricades shaking hands with fans and one female fan decided that she would make a grab at his private parts. From all reports, Tim walked away and off stage, not so with Faith Hill, his wife. She is reported to have said to that fan “someone needs to teach you some class.” Fans have for the most part been favorable to Faith stepping up and saying something, but some think that Tim should have handled the incident himself.

Around the same time it came out in the news that a fan also helped themselves to a ring that belonged to Tim. The fan refused to give it back to him when he asked and security had to be brought out to deal with that situation, he eventually got the ring back.

My question to the fans is where do you draw the line? Just because someone puts their talent out there for everyone to enjoy, does that make them fair game even in their off time? With the internet and 24 hour news out there now, it seems like no matter what the stars do, it is reported almost instantly to the world. But does that give us the right as fans to demand to know every little thing they do or think? Aren’t they just people that deserve some degree of privacy? The persona that they put out there for the public isn’t necessarily the way they are in their private life.

I can understand wanting a little piece of something to remember a fun night at a concert. But that is what a tshirt or program is intended to be used for. To grab someone or to take something that doesn’t belong to you is way over the line to my way of thinking. Why in this day and age do we, as fans, feel like these people belong to us? Where has common courtesy and decency gone? Is it too much alcohol served at the venues that is a big part of the problem?
