Wyoming - 12" Quilt Block

The next block in our State Quilt Block Series is Wyoming This pattern is a bit tricky, but if taken step by step, it will come together beautifully.




Here's a black and white map, and a grey map for easy identification of templates and their location:

Cutting Instructions

Cream:

Cut four 2½” x 2½” squares (D)

Cut eight 2 7/8” x 2 7/8” squares, cutting diagonally to make 16 triangles (G)

Brown:

Cut four 2 1/2” x 4 1/2” rectangles (B)

Cut four 2 7/8” x 2 7/8" squares, cutting diagonally to make 8 triangles (F)

Red:

Cut four 2 7/8” x 2 7/8” squares, cutting diagonally to make 8 triangles (C)

Blue:

Cut four 2 1/2” x 2 1/2” squares (I)

Cut one 4 1/2” x 4 1/2” square (A)

Sewing Instructions: Cut out all the pieces and lay them in their order on the worksurface in front of you. Refer to the template maps above for directions.



Step 1: This block has 5 rows, rows 1 & 5 are identical, rows 2 & 4 are identical, and row 3 stands alone. We’ll make tows 1&5 first. Sew row 1 together, following the diagram below. Sew row 5 together, following the diagram below.


Step 2: Sew row 2 together, following the diagram below. Sew row 4 together, following the diagram below.


Step 3: Sew row 3 together by first making the FGGF units, then sew the ABA units, and finally sewing the units together. See the diagram below.

Step 4: Now it’s time to sew the rows together. Sew rows 1 and 2 together. Sew rows 4 & 5 together. Then sew the three rows together.





Your block should measure 12-1/2" on all sides. It will measure 12" finished size when it is sewn into a quilt.
