Little Rock, Arkansas is known for its gorgeous scenery. While the town is considered the bustling urban center of Arkansas, there are plenty of fabulous places to kick back and relax in the area, too. One such popular place is Maumelle Park located just slightly west of Little Rock. The park, which is run by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, is situated along the Arkansas River and offers stunning river views along with a jewel of a campground.
Maumelle Campground is open year round and features 129 sites with electric and water hookups along with eight group shelters. While there is no such thing as a “bad” site in this park, the luckiest campers will get a chance to nab one of the coveted sites located directly on the riverbank.
No camping structure is too big or too small for this campground. Tent campers and big rig owners alike will all feel welcome here. In fact, the big rig owners may feel like the campground was made with them in mind. The main paved road within the campground is wide, so there’s plenty of room to navigate toward and back your rig into the site. The sites themselves are roomy, featuring plenty of grass between you and your neighbors, a fire pit, picnic table, and ample shade. Several of the sites are pull-thrus and a few sites in the campground even feature covered patios over the picnic tables as well.
And speaking of spacious, there is no shortage of green space in this campground. It’s perfect for letting your furry friends get out of the RV and get some exercise. It’s also an ideal location for family vacations as the park features a nice playground as well. The campground loops are perfect for taking daily strolls and there is even a scenic trail that follows the river. Other amenities include full-service bathrooms, an RV dump station, and a boat launch.
If chilling at the campground starts to get a little dull—which admittedly, hanging at campgrounds can get sometimes--there are plenty of nearby activities to keep one busy as well. One of the pluses about being at Maumelle Campground is the close proximity to Little Rock. Just a short drive and you can be meandering down historic streets in downtown Little Rock, dining at upscale restaurants, and visiting cultural sites like the William J. Clinton Presidential Library & Museum or the moving Central High School National Historic Site.
