Prepare yourself for an adventure with a hero who is a politically incorrect private eye. Not shy about proclaiming his beliefs in traditional values to anyone and everyone, he is a proud member of the NRA who believes in the rights of gun ownership for all Americans. Abortion? It is the taking of an innocent life, something he believes is wrong. Intimate relations should be reserved for serious relationships or marriage, not just for one night stands.
I have to admit that I was thrilled when author Douglas MacKinnon agreed to send me a copy of his latest book, Vengeance is Mine, to read and review. Mr. MacKinnon, a former writer for President Reagan and President Bush, is a successful author and political commentator who has written this thriller for the Tea Party Generation.
The story? Twenty years ago, Ian Wallace worked for the CIA. He was being held in a dark, depressing cell in Moscow, along with his pregnant girlfriend. He is ruthlessly tortured and forced to watch the one he loves most executed. He leaves Moscow a broken man and leaves the CIA to work as a private detective.
Ian is approached by an old and dear friend. The CIA wants him to do a job for them. A Russian defector in Boston needs protection from the former KGB Colonel, now part of the Russian mafia, who killed Ianís pregnant girlfriend. Of course, the first thing that Ian thinks of is revenge Ė revenge on the man who destroyed his life all those years ago. Will he take the job only to seek the vengeance he desires so much? He takes the job, but you will have to read the book to find out more.
The defector turns out to be a fat, ugly, ungrateful scientist who is demanding and difficult to get along with. Ianís partner, a stunningly beautiful woman sent to him by the CIA, knows how to take care of herself. Along with his partner, Kathy, he takes the scientist who wants to leave Russia permanently into protective custody. The Russian Mafia still manage to find and take this scientist who has previously escaped their grasp captive.
Ian Wallace and Kathy work overtime to get the defector away from the mafia before he is tortured and killed. The situation turns tense, so tense that the book is hard to put down.
The Christian protagonist is still very human, as are all Christians, whether or not they will admit it. There is bad language in the book, some of it coming from the protagonist. I did not find the bad language to be gratuitous, though. If you have conservative political views and enjoy reading thrillers, this book is sure to please.
If you donít want bad language of any kind in a book you read, you wonít want to read this one. Nor will much pleasure will be taken from reading this selection if you do not have conservative political views.
