Be Nice - Sugar, Spice and Everything Nice?

We women and girls of the world have been set up by the expectations of the population at large far back in time. According to a well known rhyme we are supposed to be made of sugar, spice and everything nice. Now boys on the other hand are supposed to be made of snips and snails and puppy dog tails. Come on now - we are supposed to be predisposed to be sweet and sassy and always polite and nice while the boys get to be cutting and slithery and tail wagging and swaggering. Talk about double standards. Well, enough is enough. It’s time for a rewrite of this descriptive rhyme.

We say please and thank you and keep the world on track with the right things to say. Unfortunately that sets us up for double standard treatment when we have to interact from a position of strength. When women stand up for themselves they are referred to as bitches. When men stand up for themselves they are called strong. When women are amazingly smart they are often referred to as boring. When men are even somewhat smart they are often called brilliant.

Women have to work hard everyday of their lives to live down that syrupy sweet image while not adding too much sauciness or then they are deemed to be too spicy and not a nice girl. Men snip and snap their fingers, slide and slither along while often just getting by and after they misbehave and cause havoc in the lives of everyone around them, they wag their cute puppy dog tails and give some excuse and all is well in their little boy worlds. Why, because the movers and shakers of the world, the women always set thing right. They sooth the hurts and repair the damages and in general, keep the world in an upright position so it continues to go round. Is that because they’re nice? Or is that because they are smart and savvy?

Well, enough is enough. From here forward, we’d no longer like to be referred to as sugar and spice and everything nice because of an antiquated rhyme that says that’s what little girls are made of. A better description would be steel and ice, smart wisdom and the knowledge of nice. That means we have the wisdom of all things and the savvy and know how to require and to help and coax everyone, not just girls, to be nice or at least nicer (even those snipping, slithering, tail wagging boys). Smart Wisdom, knowledge and savvy when combined with steel and ice means we also have the strength and the coolness to go along with that wisdom and knowledge to make the world a better more balanced place. A person with smart wisdom, knowledge, strength and coolness knows what buttons to push to make their world work properly, the strength to push them if they have to and the coolness to control the timing of when and if its necessary to push them.

Enough is enough and we’ve been mislabeled for long enough, its time to give credit where credit is due. Most modern women are savvy characters who are still very nice who have a right to expect the boys to be nice too. Hey they can still think of themselves as boys who wag their puppy dog tails, everyone loves puppies, right? We’d just like them to grow up to be nice dogs as well who know how to be NICE. We’d like each of them to grow up to be a MAN who knows how to be NICE while he wags his puppy dog tail.

We’d like everyone, not just girls to be all about being everything nice. Nice is more than a word and applies not only to little girls but to little boys too and also to grown women and grown men. SO girls and boys, women and men - BE NICE, BE NICE, BE NICE because that is a large part of what we should all be made of…

Until next time, have a warm heart but be COOL! Be happy, be well, and be the best you that you can be!

Best Regards,
