Amy Hest is the creator of the Baby Duck series. Baby Duck lives with her mother and father. She has a baby sister, Hot Stuff. They live in the city with other duck households. Baby Duck is five-years-old. She has hands and feet like human children. She walks and runs instead of swimming and flying.

Baby Duck faces many new experiences over the course of the series. The thought of new changes and experiences instills fear in the young duck. A compassionate Grandpa Duck eases her fears. The now empowered Baby Duck is ready to face the challenge fearlessly.

Amy Hest's Baby Duck series is good for young children. The target age group is four to eight-years-old. Children can relate to Baby Duck’s fear of going to school and swimming for the first time. They see themselves in Baby Duck. Small children conquer each challenge with Baby Duck as Grandpa Duck encourages her.

Baby Duck series is great for grandparents raising their grandchildren. Grandpa Duck takes time to listen to the little duck’s fears. He talks and encourages her to try new experiences. Mr. Duck sings songs with her.

Read Amy Hest's book and talk to children about their feelings. Allow them to express their fears. All new experiences are scary. Let them know they have someone they can trust to share their feelings. A strong, loving base gives them the courage to try new things.
