First Annual Autism Walk LA

Join other Los Angeles families at the first annual Autism Walk LA at Exposition Park on Saturday, November 10, 2007. This event will be honoring forty (40) years of autism research that has made a difference.

The schedule for the day follows:

7:00 am Registration Begins
8:00 am Walk Opens
9:00 am Walk Ends
9 to 12 Fair

The Autism Walk LA path will cover 1.1 miles within the grounds of Exposition Park, on an easy paved path, with occasional benches, and places to stop and rest.

It is ideal for strollers, wheelchairs and wagons (no bikes, skateboards, or roller blades, please).

After 9:00 am, walkers will return to the registration area for the Fair, and are free to explore the other Expo Park attractions after they are done enjoying the Fair.

The closest entrance to the Autism Walk LA parking lots is at 39th and Vermont, LA LA 90037. Parking is $6, and lots # 1 and #2 are the closest lots. There will be free drinks and snacks, as well as an autism bracelet for all. If you raise fifty dollars you get a t-shirt. There are prizes for $250,$500, $1,000 and $2,000 level. Every autism family will receive a 28-page "Summary of Biomedical Treatments".

Exposition Park, 3665 S Vermont Ave, Los Angeles - (323) 732-0169. This is next to the Coliseum in the City of Los Angeles. My son has been to the California Science Center for field trips many times, but I have yet to visit this location.

The exhibitors are not yet listed at the Autism Walk LA site, but the prices seem reasonable at $150 for non-profit organizations to have an exhibitor booth. For-profit organizations cost is $250. Each exhibit booth is encouraged to offer somethign fun for children, such as face-painting, arts/crafts, clowns, kid-oriented hand-outs, etc.

Exhibitor Form - for questions about being an exhibitor, contact (562)864-3049 voice, (562)864-6508 fax or email:Jerry@AutismWalkLA.com

" The purpose of Autism Walk LA is to fund research to find even more effective treatments for autism. On www.autism.com parents of newly diagnosed children can look at surveys from over 25,000 parents who have rated the effectiveness of nearly 100 different biomedical treatments in improving the condition, behavior, interaction and learning ability of their children. The ultimate goal is to find and promote the treatments so that children and adults can lead more independent and meaningful lives."

Volunteers can help at the registration table, set up and take down, as well as contacting organizations to sponsor the event and give therapy providers brochures for their clients. The volunteer coordinator is Dave Gillerman. He can be reached at (818) 625-7872 or via email at dave@AutismWalkLA.com
