Student $105.00
Person with Autism $ 70.00
* Group Rate - Professionals $120.00 /per person
* Group Rate - Family $ 90.00 /per family member

To qualify for Group rates there must be 5 or more people on the same credit card, check or purchase order.

You need to add five dollars if ordering through their brochure. I suggest that California residents who are consumers of the Regional Center system ask their Service Coordinator to have this conference paid for through them. I checked and there is no vendor number for this conference, but you can still get it paid for by the Regional Center. For professionals this conference is a provider of continuing education units. You can also substitute someone else for yourself if you cannot attend.

I like that this is a conference that is being held on a weekday since it is very hard to find respite to attend events that are held on weekends. With traffic issues in Los Angeles I am considering driving to Amtrak downtown and taking the Metro Blue Line to get to Long Beach. It appears to be a 52 minute ride. The Metro Day Pass is five dollars and can be purchased at any Metro Rail Station.

" After passing the Long Beach Plaza shopping center, the trains loop around downtown Long Beach within short walking distance to the Long Beach Convention Center, Shoreline Village and numerous shops, restaurants, theatres and hotels." Security on the Blue Line is provided by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

You can call Future Horizons to register directly at 1-800-489-0727 and pay by credit card or mail check o:

Future Horizons, Inc.
721 West Abram Street
Arlington, TX 76013

Participants will gain the following from this one-day conference:

Hear in-depth perspectives and idaes on asperger's Syndrome and high-functioning autism. Learn about emotion management, with emphasis on understanding the source of the emotions. Learn skills needed to understand the nature of the social skill challenges faced by individuals on the spectrum.

The presentation will discuss - strategies to reduce bullying and teasing; sexuality in adolescence; profiles of abilities in girls with Asperger's; managing anxiety and anger; a child's reaction to being different and how to explain the diagnosis; special interests, as well as covering love and relationships.

There will be many great books by Dr. Tony Attwood at this conference. Also his latest DVD that explores feelings with three hours of information. This one-day conference is suitable for mainstream and special education teachers, psychologists, parents, grandparents, social workers, speech therapists, teacher's aides, speech and occupational therapists, and those on the spectrum.

Since my high functioning twelve-year old is currently enrolled through California Virtual Academy, he would have to accompany me to this conference. I have to make sure this is vendored through the Regional Center and get it paid for both of us. My other son Matthew starts school at 8 AM and then we would have to get downtown and take the Metro Blue Line to get there late and leave early to pick my son up from school. That would mean about 2.5 hours of the conference for us to attend.

Please also note that Dr. Tony Atwood will be having a conference in San Francisco on November 9, 2007.

It would be nice to attend, but seems like a lot of work to pull this off for a limited time. Hopefully a visit to Los Angeles will be in the near future.
